Poland has summoned the US ambassador in Warsaw on an article written
by a US intelligence officials allegedly responsible for Poland's
Holocaust during the Second World War, the foreign ministry spokesman
said on Sunday.
Article by FBI Director James Comey, published in the Washington Post
earlier this week, prompting anger in Poland and drew criticism in the
media and from politicians.
A spokesman for the foreign ministry said on his Twitter account that
the US ambassador will be summoned to the ministry for the article, and
that Poland will demand an apology.
Comey
said in the article: "In their minds, the killers and the foot of
Germany, and Poland, and Hungary, and so many, many other places do not
do something evil They convince themselves it was the right thing to do,
it. things they should do. "
Polish saying this section incorrectly implied it was involved in the Nazi genocide of European Jews.
Polish
Ambassador to the United States said in a statement that the statement
was "unacceptable", adding that he had sent a letter to Comey "protest
against falsification of history, especially ... accused Poland not only
perpetuate crimes they did not commit, but that they themselves become a victim. "
Shortly after the announcement of Poland, Warsaw US Ambassador Stephen
Mull told reporters he would attend a meeting at the Foreign Ministry
on Sunday afternoon.
"The suggestion that Poland, or any other country apart from Nazi
Germany is responsible for the Holocaust wrong, dangerous and
offensive," he added, speaking in Polish.
"I think that the broader message Comey is that there are many people
in the world who assisted Nazi criminals, or there are people who do not
respond sufficiently, ... also in the United States."
Poland
is one of Europe's closest ally the United States, and bilateral
relations have been strengthened by the conflict in Ukraine, and tension
associated with Russia. Polish politicians have repeatedly called for increased US military presence in the region.
