Let's get 2014 started off on the right foot America! The New
Year really is a time to start fresh and think about the changes you
want to make; big or small. Or for some of us, it might be a time to get
back to the ideas for change we had last January but just quite didn't
get to in 2013. We all make resolutions but the key, of course, is
keeping them!
So I propose an easy resolution for 2014: let's all get back to doing our part to strengthen America. You have the power - really you do! We, as consumers, can be the change when it comes to bringing back "Made In The USA"!
The time is now and it is more important than ever to teach our kids and grandkids the importance of buying American. Statistics show that Americans 65 years and older are the highest percentage of people who make a special effort to buy American made products. Only 45% of 30-49 year olds make the effort and the percentage drops to a low 20% for 18-29 year olds. We must be the change and show our younger folks how important it is to buy American.
Here are 8 great reasons to use your power:
1. Jobs - Jobs - Jobs: without them our economy cannot grow! By spending just 5% more per year on products Made In The USA we can help create a million jobs. According to the Manufacturing Institute, manufacturing supports an estimated 12 million jobs in America, down from 19 million in 1978. They estimate that for each new manufacturing job, another three to five support jobs are created.
2. Strengthen the economy: see Jobs-Jobs-Jobs! The US Bureau of Economic Analysis says that for every $1.00 spent in manufacturing, another $1.35 is added to the economy. By buying products Made In The USA we invest in our country's future and keep American dollars in America!
3. Quality Standards: products Made In America are manufactured to the high quality standards we all want. Don't pay for a cheap throwaway import that you will have to buy over and over when you can get an American Made product built to last.
4. Safety: products Made In America are manufactured to higher safety standards than those made overseas. We all want the products we buy for our families to be safe and free from harmful toxins!
5. Worker Conditions: we have all heard and seen the tragic stories on the news about hundreds of foreign workers hurt or killed in factory collapses or fires. Buying American Made products promotes safe worker conditions, reasonable wages and strong child labor laws.
6. The Environment: do your part to keep our world a little bit cleaner! Buying products made here at home reduces the pollution created when transporting goods long distances. It also ensures that the products you are buying are manufactured while adhering to US environmental standards.
7. Trade Deficit: since 1981, the trade balance has stayed negative every year except one. When you buy products Made In The USA you help reduce the enormous trade deficit. Huge debt isn't good for your or for America.
8. Stand Up For America: it's just the right thing to do and will make you feel good!
So it's simple America - buy American - create the demand for more American Made products - keep the cycle going - bring "Made In The USA" back! Use your power wisely!
